Gamers & Grognards Dungeons & Dragons Unboxing Event

Good evening all.  This is a little post to let all of my Michigan OSR folks know that this Saturday July 5th, I intend to do a live unboxing and critique of the new D&D Starter Set.   I'm very interested in doing my own quick look to see how this thing holds up to OSR standards and tastes, as WOTC seems to keep targeting us, and from what I am hearing, it sounds like that have taken some of our own rules and tweaked them.  I also want to tape this and post the video here if at all possible.  Essentially I want the event to be gamers opening a box and having a fun doing so, whether we like the contents or not, I'm sure we can have a good time with it or at it's expense, and some good talk as well.  Now, I have chosen to do this at store that doesn't pander to OSR folks, but is partially owned by a good friend of mine.  I owe him a visit, so this is it.  If you want to come by for the broadcast be at Warriors 3 Comics & Games in downtown Wayne, MI this Saturday at 4:00 P.M.  Also, if there are any volunteers our there to run the camera (if I can wrangle a decent camera) it would be appreciated.  Hope to see you there!

Hump-day... Gamers & Grognards Logo?

In the news today:

I hear Jim Ward is pulling through, which is absolutely awesome.  Keep sending him good vibes.

The OSR Track for U-Con is official.  I will be posting on that very soon.

Also, we're getting  a new logo.  A member of the Gamers & Grognards family, that will also be working on some art for the modules that I am currently writing, has created this thing of beauty.

Dice & Gel Pens

So, I finally got off my duff and decided to re-ink my Gamescience (and a few Diamond Dice) dice.  Sharpie and crayon never really hold up for me.  This time around I went gel pen.  I've seen a few examples of this, and they always look sharp.  Right now I'm playing the waiting game, as I'm told (and it seems true) that it can take three to five days for the gel to dry completely.  Here are some semi-blurry pics.

Hump-day Hildebrandt: When Hildebrandt Met Harryhausen

Not much to say today.  I have a big announcement to make in the near future.  Keep on the watch for it.  Until then, do yourself a favor; go back and watch the original.  It's still as good as it ever was.

Celebrating International Heraldry Day

Here at Gamers & Grognards, Grognard the Dragon and I are having great time digging into family history and Coats of Arms in celebration of International Heraldry Day!  I have managed to turn up A coat of arms (or more than one) for each of my grandparents.   The authenticity of at least one is currently in question, and I may update as I delve further into my lineage.   What does this have to do with gaming?  Not much outside of the interest in heraldry that should play some part in fantasy games.

This is the Coat of Arms of the family of my grandmother on my mother's side, Rohde.  It may be in question.

This is the Coat of Arms of my grandfather on my mother's side, Jurkiewicz.

This may be the Coat of Arms of the Mazi side of my father's lineage, his mother's family.  This Coat of Arms is in question, as I have found several others and all seem to have crossovers with other families in the same regions.

Any of these three may be the Coat of Arms of my family.  The first is from England, the second may be English or Irish and the third is Irish.  I am not entirely certain, but I believe we are Irish Thompsons.  I must investigate this further.

FIGHT ON!

Hump-day Hildebrandt: The Gift of Galadriel

I have things to say about gaming, but they deserve their own post.  By the way, I am, yet again, not in Texas this year.  So, here's some good stuff.

All Your RoboCop Are Belong To Us

Readers in the Detroit region, as I am, may be in the know, and possibly even waiting for this.  This was a Crowdfunded project from a while back, that is finally seeing the light of day. Detroit's RoboCop  Statue has been unveiled.  You can read more here and at Detroits own Metro Times.  So, fictional sci-fi character as a Detroit Icon.  Thoughts from the Grognards?  How about Metro-Detroit gamers?  +Amy Kohl+Adam Muszkiewicz+James DeYonke?
