AD&D Kickstarter

That's right.  AD&D is going to be on the market!  No, not that AD&D.  Adventures Dark and Deep.  Alot of folks have been waiting for this "alternate reality retro-clone" for quite some time. I'm likely not the first person that you are hearing this from... today.   Joseph Bloch of the "Greyhawk Grognard" blog, who appears to be the retro-clone of Mordenkainen, is kicking off his own clone, which he has spoken about and supported for a while now.  The  gist is this:

"Adventures Dark and Deep™ is an attempt to explore what the world's most popular role-playing game might have looked like if its creator had been allowed to continue developing it, rather than leaving TSR in 1985.

This work is based on extensive research into Gary Gygax's public statements about his vision for the next edition of the game, using the game's 1st edition rules as a jumping off point. It's not a retro-clone, but an entirely new game with a very familiar feel."

This is interesting to in inso-far as, if you have been following my "origins story" (more of that to come soon, by the way) you will have noticed that my major kickoff in D&D was with 2nd Edition supplemented with 1st Edition.  I am somewhat eager to see if this is close to the house ruling that I had done in my early teenage years.  If you are at all interested in this, check it out here

  1. Ha! Retro-clone of Mordenkainen. First time I've heard that; now I have something to do for next Halloween!

Many thanks for the mention, R.J. Glad you like the project.

    1. Joseph, I dig the idea of the game. And yeah, you kind of look like "post Fantastic Adventure" Mordenkainen. All the more reason for people to trust you with Greyhawk material. Obviously, you were there.
